David Warner tries to avoid Ashes conversation by saying, “It just sells papers and clickbait.”

Thursday, June 3 (ANI): According to Australian batsman David Warner, he is not looking forward to engaging in any form of pre-game Ashes teasing with the English athletes.

Warner, 36, is most likely participating in his final England trip, and before that, he will play in the one-off ICC World Test Championship Final against India at The Oval, which starts on June 7.

Warner had a difficult time during the previous Ashes, and even this time, his bitter rival Stuart Broad won’t be helping him out. Warner has been limited by the Englishman to just 95 runs throughout the course of his distinguished career, averaging around 10.

Warner is attempting to maintain composure and avoid a verbal altercation with the seasoned English bowler because Board is eager to rekindle his rivalry with the Australian batsman.

Warner was cited by ICC as saying, “I won’t be getting involved in any of that stuff. It just sells papers and clickbait.”

“I’ll let them handle it themselves. In the field right now, there isn’t much banter, Warner continued.

“It really comes down to playing good cricket and competing against one another. It is much more connected now than it was previously, which is wonderful for the game, in my opinion,” Warner said.

The 36-year-old struggled at times during the past two years, recording only one century – his epic 200 on Boxing Day last summer – and 18 scores of 15 or less in 32 innings. He scored just 95 runs in five Tests at 9.5 during the 2019 Ashes tour.

Warner insists that he has not been given any ultimatums or requests from squad members, including captain Pat Cummins and coach Andrew McDonald, in spite of his contradictions.

“I was chosen to play cricket in this series. No one has ever discussed a matter with me. To continue my ten-year career, I’m merely here as the opening hitter, Warner remarked. (ANI)
