[New Delhi], June 20 (ANI): Former India captain Virat Kohli debuted in the Test format of the game on June 20, 2011.
In Kingston, Jamaica, he made his debut against the West Indies. The right-handed batsman had a poor showing with the bat in his maiden Test, scoring only 19 runs in the entire match.
He only scored four runs in the first two innings. Fidel Edwards sent Kohli back to the pavilion as he came into bat at number five.
In the second innings, Kohli scored 15 runs off 54 balls and was eventually removed by Fidel Edwards. India eventually won the match by a score of 63 runs. Kohli has made an indelible impression on the game since his Test debut.
Kohli made his Test debut on this day in 2011, and as a batter and captain, he has transformed the fortunes of Indian Test cricket.
He has played 109 Tests to date, scoring 28 hundreds at an average of 48.72.
Kohli’s highest Test score to date is 254, which he scored against South Africa in Pune in 2019.
The comparisons between Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar have also grown, with many picking the former Indian captain to smash Tendulkar’s records.
Kohli is now rated 13th in the Tests rankings. India’s run machine has 8479 runs at a strike rate of 55.34 in cricket’s longest format.
After 2021 and the first half of 2022, which fell short of Virat’s lofty expectations, the star batter began his redemption arc with the Asia Cup in 2022. Virat took a month off from the sport prior to the event.
Virat Kohli was one of the senior batsmen who earned criticism for his performance in the recently ended World Test Championship final (WTC) at The Oval. Kohli missed his half-century by one run in the fourth inning of the game. He was removed after following a wide delivery at a critical juncture in the game, and his dismissing manner was criticised.
