Mahavatar Narsimha Roars to OTT: Netflix Release Date Confirmed
Director Ashwin Kumar’s much-celebrated animated spectacle Mahavatar Narsimha is set to make its digital debut, with Netflix confirming the film’s OTT release on September 19, 2025, at 12:30 PM.
The mystical action-drama, rooted in ancient Hindu scriptures like the Vishnu Purana, Narasimha Purana, and Shrimad Bhagavata Purana, first hit theatres on July 25, 2025. Despite a relatively low-key start at the box office, the film went on to shatter expectations, becoming one of the most talked-about animated films in India.
On Thursday, Netflix India shared the official poster of the film on X (formerly Twitter), writing:
“The roar of this lion can topple a kingdom. Watch Mahavatar Narsimha, out 19 September, 12:30 PM, on Netflix.”
A Modern Retelling of an Ancient Epic
Mahavatar Narsimha narrates the timeless story of Prahlad, whose unwavering devotion to Lord Vishnu stands in stark contrast to the tyranny of his father, the demon king Hiranyakashipu. The narrative builds toward the powerful climax where Lord Vishnu manifests as his most fierce avatar—Narsimha—to protect his devotee and vanquish evil.
Reviewers praised the film for its blend of emotional storytelling and technical brilliance. India Today described it as “a gripping epic-animation saga… a brave attempt at retelling ancient legends… compelling for its emotional reliability and stunning depiction of Lord Narsimha in the goosebumps-filled climax.”
The Beginning of the Mahavatar Cinematic Universe
Backed by Kleem Productions and Hombale Films, Mahavatar Narsimha is the first chapter in the ambitious Mahavatar Cinematic Universe, which plans to bring all ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu to life on screen.
Future instalments already in development include:
-
Mahavatar Parshuram (2027)
-
Mahavatar Raghunandan (2029)
-
Mahavatar Dhawkadhesh (2031)
-
Mahavatar Gokulananda (2033)
-
Mahavatar Kalki (2035–2037)
Speaking about the project, director Ashwin Kumar said, “We, at Kleem Productions along with Hombale Films, are excited to bring the heritage of Bharat to the big screen in a never-before-experienced cinematic scale. The transcendental experience begins through the MAHAVATAR universe of Dasha Avatar… Now Bharat will Roar!”
What’s Next for Fans
The film’s OTT release on Netflix now opens the door for a much wider global audience, many of whom may have missed its theatrical run. With its blend of mythology, action, and cutting-edge animation, Mahavatar Narsimha is expected to make waves in the streaming space just as it did in theatres.
As the lion avatar of Lord Vishnu prepares to roar once again—this time on digital screens—the countdown to September 19 has officially begun.
