Railway Employee Found Dead in Chittaranjan Quarters, Six Months After Wife’s Murder

Chittaranjan, West Bengal – In a shocking incident, a railway employee was found dead with a gunshot wound inside his government quarters in Chittaranjan on Sunday night. The incident comes six months after the gruesome murder of his wife in the same premises, leaving the local community in disbelief and raising concerns about safety within the railway township.

The deceased has been identified as Pradip Choudhury, a staff member of the Eastern Railway, who reportedly lived in the quarters with his young son, Debaditya Choudhury. Eyewitnesses and local sources suggest that Pradip may have died by suicide, although the police have not ruled out the possibility of foul play.

Investigations are currently underway to ascertain the circumstances surrounding his death.

According to the preliminary report, Debaditya had left the quarters in the afternoon and returned around 8 pm to find the door locked from inside. Despite repeated knocking and calling out, there was no response. He immediately informed the local vice warden and contacted the Chittaranjan police. Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement officials broke open the door and discovered Pradip lying dead on the bed with a gunshot wound to the head. A firearm was reportedly recovered at the scene.

Police have sent the body for a post-mortem examination and have called in forensic experts to assist with the investigation. Authorities are meticulously examining whether the death was a suicide or a homicide.

This tragic incident has reopened memories of the earlier crime. On April 3, during Basanti Puja celebrations, Pradip’s wife, Sanchita Choudhury, was found murdered in the same quarters, with her throat slit. Her death had sent shockwaves through the Chittaranjan railway township, prompting police to question Pradip multiple times in connection with her murder. However, the investigation into her death has yet to yield any arrests, leaving lingering questions and unease among residents.

Indrajit Singh, General Secretary of the Chittaranjan Railway Men’s Congress (CRMC), expressed his concern over the rising criminal incidents in the area. “He [Pradip] is believed to have died by suicide. Police investigation is underway, but the accused behind his wife’s murder has not yet been caught. Crime has increased in Chittaranjan, and the administration should take proactive measures immediately,” Singh said.

The Chittaranjan police have assured residents that they are treating the case with the utmost priority. They have urged the local community to cooperate with authorities while the investigation continues. Meanwhile, security measures in the railway township are expected to be reviewed to prevent such tragic incidents in the future.

This case has highlighted both the vulnerability of individuals living in government quarters and the need for heightened vigilance and support mechanisms for families affected by previous traumatic incidents. The railway administration has yet to release an official statement, but local authorities have indicated that additional safety protocols may be implemented in the wake of these consecutive tragedies.
