UK PM Keir Starmer Praises Paytm as the ‘Superstar’ of Indian Fintech at Global Fintech Festival 2025

At the Global Fintech Festival (GFF) 2025, United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer lauded India’s remarkable growth in the global fintech space, calling Paytm one of the “superstars” of the country’s digital finance revolution. His remarks underscored India’s rising influence as a global hub of innovation, driven by cutting-edge technology, financial inclusion, and entrepreneurial spirit.

Addressing a gathering that included top global investors, fintech founders, and policymakers, Starmer said, “This room has the superstars of Indian fintech, increasingly looking out to the world. So I am here to extend an invitation to all of you to do business with Britain, to see the UK as your gateway to doing global.”

The UK Prime Minister highlighted how Indian fintech companies have transformed from local innovators into global players, reshaping the way financial services operate through scalable technology and inclusive digital ecosystems. He pointed out that India’s fintech growth story—fueled by innovation, ambition, and accessibility—has inspired other economies around the world.

Starmer specifically mentioned Paytm as a prime example of India’s technological prowess and digital entrepreneurship. Once a mobile payments app, Paytm has evolved into a multifaceted financial platform offering payments, lending, and wealth management solutions. The company now stands as a symbol of India’s fintech potential and a major contributor to the digital transformation narrative across emerging markets.

Starmer’s invitation to Indian fintech leaders to expand operations in the UK reflects a shared goal to deepen technology and investment partnerships between the two nations. The UK, already home to a thriving fintech ecosystem, seeks to collaborate with Indian innovators to drive financial inclusion, cross-border payments, and AI-led solutions on a global scale.

During the event, Paytm also unveiled India’s first AI-powered Soundbox for payments, marking another significant milestone in the company’s innovation journey. This advanced device features an intelligent AI assistant capable of communicating in 11 Indian languages, providing real-time transaction updates, payment insights, and business performance analytics. Designed to enhance merchant efficiency and engagement, the Soundbox positions itself not just as a payment alert tool but as an intelligent business assistant for small and medium enterprises.

Industry experts at the event hailed the AI Soundbox as a major step toward smarter commerce and AI-driven financial solutions. It represents India’s growing focus on embedding artificial intelligence into everyday financial tools, aligning with the government’s digital economy goals.

Starmer’s acknowledgment of India’s fintech achievements and his emphasis on partnership highlight the strengthening economic and technological ties between India and the United Kingdom. As Paytm and other Indian companies continue to explore international markets, the collaboration between both countries promises to accelerate the next phase of fintech innovation and digital transformation.
