Veteran UP Cricketer Dies Moments After Bowling Final Delivery in Moradabad Match

A friendly cricket match in Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad district turned into a scene of tragedy on Sunday after veteran bowler Ahmar Khan collapsed and died on the field moments after leading his team to victory.

The incident occurred at the sugar mill grounds in Bilari block during a fixture organised by the Uttar Pradesh Veterans Cricket Association, featuring senior players from Moradabad and Sambhal.

According to players, the contest had reached a nail-biting finish. Moradabad, batting first, set a challenging target, and Sambhal needed 14 runs from the final four balls to win. Khan, a seasoned left-arm fast bowler known for his control and composure, was handed the ball for the final over. He bowled a decisive spell, conceding just a few runs and clinching an 11-run victory for his side.

However, moments after delivering the final ball, Khan appeared to lose his balance. Witnesses said he sat down briefly on the pitch, visibly gasping for breath, before collapsing suddenly. A doctor present at the venue immediately administered CPR, and teammates rushed to assist. Khan was then transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital, but doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

Video footage of the match captured the shocking turn of events, showing players celebrating before panic spread across the ground.

“What was a moment of joy quickly turned into disbelief and grief,” said one organiser from the veterans association. “Ahmar Khan wasn’t just a talented player — he was a mentor, a friend, and an inspiration to many in Moradabad’s cricketing circle.”

Khan had long been a respected figure in local cricket, representing Moradabad in several veterans tournaments over the years. Known for his discipline and passion for the sport, he continued to play even after retirement from competitive cricket, often mentoring younger bowlers in the region.

The Uttar Pradesh Veterans Cricket Association expressed deep condolences to Khan’s family, calling his passing an “irreplaceable loss” to the community. Players from both teams also observed a moment of silence in his memory.

Authorities are awaiting a medical report to determine the exact cause of death, though preliminary accounts suggest a possible cardiac arrest.

What began as a spirited Sunday match ended as a heartbreaking reminder of how fleeting life can be — even for those who live it doing what they love most.
