Speeding Thar Mows Down Two Sisters in Chandigarh; One Dead, Another Critical

Chandigarh: In a tragic road accident on Wednesday, a speeding black Thar SUV ran over two sisters in Chandigarh, killing one and leaving the other critically injured. The incident has once again highlighted the growing menace of reckless driving in the city.

According to eyewitnesses, the sisters — Josef and Isha — were returning home from college and waiting by the roadside for an auto-rickshaw when the speeding Thar lost control and rammed into them. The driver immediately fled the scene after the crash, leaving the victims grievously injured.

Local residents rushed to their aid and took them to a nearby hospital. Doctors declared Josef, the elder sister, dead on arrival, while Isha remains in critical condition and is currently undergoing treatment. The family, residents of the Burail area, has been devastated by the loss.

Police officials said they traced the registration number of the vehicle and located the accused driver’s last known address. However, when officers reached the location, they found that he had vacated the premises long ago. Authorities are now analyzing CCTV footage to identify and apprehend the culprit.

This incident adds to a worrying trend of hit-and-run cases in Chandigarh in recent months. Just last month, an Ambala Cantonment resident lost his life when his motorcycle was struck by an unidentified speeding vehicle. In that case too, the driver fled from the spot.

The police have registered a case under Sections 281, 125(A), and 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and further investigations are underway.
