Bengaluru Police have initiated a full-scale investigation after a threatening email warning of a potential explosion at a metro station was sent to the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) late at night.
According to officials, the alarming email landed in the BMRCL’s official inbox at 11:25 pm on November 13, sent from the ID rajivsettyptp@gmail.com. The sender accused Metro staff of allegedly “harassing” his divorced wife and issued a chilling warning that “one of your metro stations will be blasted.”
In the same email, the unidentified individual described himself as “like a terrorist” and claimed to be “patriotic against Kannadigas,” remarks that immediately raised red flags among Metro authorities due to their provocative and communal undertones.
BMRCL Assistant Executive Engineer Ratheesh Thomas reviewed the message and escalated the issue to the Wilson Garden Police on November 14. Initially, the police filed a non-cognisable report (NCR) due to procedural requirements. However, after obtaining court permission, an FIR was officially registered on November 15, allowing investigators to take more decisive action.
Police teams are now working to trace the origin of the email and identify the person behind the threatening message. Cybercrime experts are assisting in tracking the IP address, verifying digital footprints, and determining whether the email was sent from within Bengaluru or routed through anonymous servers.
Authorities have also assured that security will be intensified across Metro stations, with additional surveillance, baggage checks, and increased patrolling expected over the next few days. The threat has prompted a review of BMRCL’s emergency response protocols, even as officials believe the email may have come from someone acting out of personal grievance.
Senior officers stated that while the authenticity of the threat is yet to be confirmed, it is being treated with the highest priority as a precaution. Investigators are also looking into whether the accused has a criminal history or past complaints.
Further updates are awaited as police continue their search for the sender and assess the motive behind the disturbing message.
