What Happened in the Ahmedabad PG Rape Case?
The Ahmedabad PG Rape Case has led to the arrest of a security guard after a student living at a paying guest accommodation in the city alleged that she was sexually assaulted on the building’s terrace. Police launched a major search operation following the incident and arrested the accused within hours.
The incident reportedly took place on Saturday, August 8, at a PG accommodation in Ahmedabad’s Anandnagar area. The woman, who is studying interior designing, had gone to the terrace at around 10 pm for a walk. According to preliminary information from the police, the security guard was also present there at the time.
The woman allegedly tried to leave the terrace but was restrained by the accused. Police said he allegedly tied a wire around her neck before sexually assaulting her. The woman was subsequently taken to hospital, where she remains under medical treatment.
The accused has been identified as Dharm Singh, who was working as a security guard at the PG. Police arrested him on Sunday morning after an overnight search operation.
Police Form 10 Teams
Following the complaint, Anandnagar police, the Local Crime Branch and the Crime Branch launched a coordinated investigation. Ten teams were formed to trace the accused and establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault.
Police teams searched for Singh throughout the night before apprehending him the following morning. Investigators are now questioning the accused and examining evidence collected from the premises.
Preliminary information suggests that Singh is originally from Hardoi district in Uttar Pradesh. Police said he had reportedly started working as a security guard at the PG only a few days before the alleged incident.
Investigators are also examining his background and employment history as part of the probe.
CCTV Footage Under Investigation
CCTV footage from the paying guest accommodation has emerged as an important part of the investigation. Police have reportedly obtained footage showing the accused moving between different floors and the terrace using the building’s lift.
Investigators are examining the footage to establish the movements of the accused and the woman before and after the alleged incident. The CCTV evidence is being assessed alongside the woman’s statement and other material gathered during the investigation.
Police are also examining other available evidence from the premises and following the required forensic and medical procedures.
Student Remains Under Treatment
The woman remains under medical treatment following the alleged assault. Her medical examination and statement are expected to form an important part of the ongoing investigation.
The case has also raised concerns about security arrangements at paying guest accommodations, particularly facilities where students and young professionals live.
However, the investigation is still underway, and police have not yet disclosed all details concerning the sequence of events. Authorities are continuing to analyse CCTV footage and other evidence to establish what happened.
