Netflix Unveils Trailer for Kurukshetra, an Animated Retelling of the Mahabharata
Netflix has dropped the trailer for its upcoming animated series Kurukshetra, a bold new take on the timeless Indian epic, the Mahabharata. The show is scheduled to premiere on October 10, promising to bring mythology, drama, and moral dilemmas to life in a visually rich format.
Unlike many earlier adaptations, Kurukshetra takes a unique approach by focusing on the inner journeys of 18 key warriors caught in the great war. Their moral struggles, loyalties, and dilemmas form the core of the narrative, as the series delves into the human side of what is often remembered as a divine and historic conflict.
One of the central themes is captured in Lord Krishnaâs powerful words: âIss yuddh mein na koi mitra hai, na koi shatruâ (âIn this war, there are no friends or enemiesâ). This sentiment runs through the show, highlighting how even family ties and friendships are tested on the battlefield of dharma (righteousness) versus adharma (unrighteousness).
From Arjunaâs hesitation to lift his bow, to Draupadiâs vow for justice, Duryodhanâs insatiable hunger for power, and Bhishma Pitamahâs burden of wisdom, the series brings alive the emotions, rivalries, and philosophical questions that shaped the destiny of generations.
Kurukshetra is created by Anu Sikka and produced under Tipping Point, with writing and direction by Ujaan Ganguly. The animation work has been executed by Hitech Animation, while the legendary Gulzar has lent his lyrical brilliance to the storytelling, adding poetic depth to the series.
By blending high-quality animation with deep-rooted philosophy, the makers aim to present the Mahabharata in a fresh, globally accessible format. For modern audiencesâespecially younger viewersâKurukshetra hopes to provide not just entertainment, but also a reflection on timeless moral questions.
The series will be available to stream on Netflix starting October 10.
