Jaipur School Suicide: Family Alleges Year-Long Bullying, School’s Negligence Under Scrutiny
A tragic incident at a private school in Jaipur has sent shockwaves through the city after a nine-year-old girl, identified as Amayra, died by suicide last week. Her family has alleged that she had been facing relentless bullying from her classmates for nearly a year, and that teachers ignored repeated complaints from both the child and her parents.
According to the family, Amayra’s parents had raised the issue multiple times with the school administration but no corrective action was taken. “She had complained to her teacher several times. Her parents too had approached the school repeatedly. But nothing changed,” said a close relative of the girl. “There were a few children who kept bullying her, and the teachers simply did nothing. This had been happening for almost a year,” he added.
The Tragic Incident
The incident occurred on Saturday when Amayra allegedly jumped from the fourth floor of the school building, approximately 48 feet high. CCTV footage reportedly captured her climbing the railing before taking the fatal step. School staff immediately rushed her to a nearby hospital, but she succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
Amayra’s maternal uncle, Sahil, said the family is devastated and struggling to understand what led to her final act. “We have no answers. What happened that day between her and the other children or during her interaction with the teachers that made her take such a step? We need to know,” he said.
Suspicion and Allegations
When police arrived at the scene, they reportedly found that the area where Amayra fell had been cleaned, raising suspicions that evidence might have been tampered with. The family has lodged an FIR against the school administration, alleging death under suspicious circumstances and negligence by the teachers.
Both of Amayra’s parents, who are working professionals, are said to be in deep shock and under medical care following the incident.
Public Outrage and Demand for Accountability
The tragedy has sparked widespread outrage among parents and activists across Rajasthan. The Joint Parents’ Association of Rajasthan (JPAR) has accused the school of trying to suppress evidence and demanded a transparent investigation.
“We spoke to the girl’s relatives and several students from her class. It’s clear that she had been facing bullying for one to two years. The school’s inaction is alarming,” said Arvind Agarwal, State President of JPAR.
He further alleged that the school was “destroying crucial evidence” and called for strict action against those responsible.
Investigation Underway
Police have initiated a detailed investigation to determine the sequence of events leading to the tragedy. Preliminary reports suggest death by suicide, though the school administration has yet to issue an official statement and has been accused of non-cooperation during the probe.
The case has reignited the debate on bullying and accountability in private schools, raising serious questions about whether enough is being done to protect children from harassment and emotional distress within educational institutions.
