Palghar Tragedy: Mother Arrested for Beating 7-Year-Old Son to Death Over Food Demand

Palghar, Maharashtra: A shocking and heartbreaking case of domestic violence has surfaced from Dhansar village in Palghar district, where a 7-year-old boy was allegedly beaten to death by his mother with a rolling pin after he demanded chicken for a meal.

The Incident

The victim, identified as Chinmay Dhumde, had reportedly asked his mother to cook chicken on Sunday evening. Instead of fulfilling his request, the woman allegedly lost her temper and repeatedly assaulted him with a rolling pin (belan). According to police, the blows landed on his head, chest, back, and face, leaving him gravely injured.

Despite his worsening condition, the mother did not seek medical assistance. Chinmay succumbed to his injuries inside their home before any help could arrive.

Neighbour Raises Alarm

Suspicion first arose when a neighbour visited the house and found the child lying lifeless on the floor, covered with a sheet. The mother allegedly told the neighbour that her son had died of jaundice. However, upon lifting the sheet, the neighbour noticed multiple injury marks on the child’s body and immediately alerted the police.

Sister Also Assaulted

The tragedy deepened when it was discovered that Chinmay’s 10-year-old sister was also attacked with the same rolling pin during the outburst. She sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a local hospital before being shifted to an ashram in Dahanu for her safety and long-term care.

Police Investigation

A police team reached the spot and arrested the accused woman. The rolling pin used in the assault was seized as evidence. During preliminary questioning, the mother initially claimed her son had died due to illness. However, her daughter later disclosed that both children were beaten with the rolling pin.

Police said the woman had been living separately from her husband along with her two children and sisters. The motive behind the violent outburst is still being investigated, though officers suspect deeper family tensions may have contributed.

Case Registered

A case of murder has been registered under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with other relevant provisions. The exact cause of death will be confirmed once the post-mortem report is released.

While the mother has admitted to the assault, locals remain shaken and claim that the incident may have underlying factors yet to be revealed. Authorities have assured that a detailed probe is underway.

A Grim Reminder

The incident has left the community in shock and raised serious concerns about domestic violence and child safety. For many, the tragedy stands as a grim reminder of the vulnerability of children in troubled households, where unchecked anger and lack of intervention can lead to irreversible consequences.
