Moradabad man accuses son, daughter-in-law, and wife of brutal assault over property dispute; police launch probe
A shocking case of domestic violence has emerged from Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad, where a middle-aged man has alleged that his own son, daughter-in-law, and wife assaulted him over a property dispute — leaving him seriously injured.
The victim, identified as Shankar Lal, has accused the trio of attacking him in the middle of the night while he was asleep at his residence. He claims that the dispute arose after his son and daughter-in-law pressured him to transfer ownership of his house in their name — a demand he had refused.
According to Shankar Lal’s statement, the incident turned violent when his son and daughter-in-law allegedly joined forces with his wife to attack him.
“My son and his wife wanted me to transfer the house to them. They attacked me when I was sleeping,” he recounted from his hospital bed. “They hit me on the chest with a stone, and then my wife dragged me into a room and attacked me with a blade on my private parts.”
Neighbours reportedly rushed to Shankar Lal’s aid after hearing his cries for help in the dead of night. They immediately alerted the police, who arrived at the scene and arranged for the injured man to be shifted to the district hospital.
Doctors confirmed that Shankar Lal had sustained serious injuries, including deep cuts and bruises, and remains under medical care.
Property feud turns violent
Police sources revealed that the assault stemmed from a long-standing family dispute over the ownership of a residential property. Shankar Lal has alleged that his wife and son had been pressuring him for several months to transfer the house to his son’s name.
When he refused, tensions reportedly escalated — culminating in the alleged late-night assault. The victim also claimed that during the attack, his family members stole cash from his pocket, calling it a “planned conspiracy” to seize his property.
“They had been harassing me for months to sign the property papers. When I didn’t agree, they decided to finish me off,” Shankar Lal alleged.
Police confirm FIR, accused on the run
City Superintendent of Police (SP) Kumar Ran Vijay Singh confirmed that a case has been registered on the basis of Shankar Lal’s complaint.
“We have registered an FIR and initiated an investigation. Strict action will be taken against those found guilty,” Singh said.
According to police officials, all three accused — the son, daughter-in-law, and wife — have gone absconding since the incident. Raids are being conducted at multiple locations to trace their whereabouts.
The SP further stated that forensic evidence is being collected and statements from neighbours are being recorded to corroborate the victim’s claims.
Community in shock
The brutal nature of the alleged attack has left residents of the locality stunned. Many neighbours described Shankar Lal as a quiet man who mostly kept to himself and said the family had been involved in frequent disputes lately.
“We used to hear arguments from their house often, but we never thought it would come to this,” a neighbour told local reporters.
Meanwhile, the incident has sparked discussions on rising family disputes over property in smaller towns, which often escalate into violence. Local social workers have urged authorities to ensure the victim receives both medical and legal protection as the investigation proceeds.
Police said they are continuing efforts to locate the accused and will pursue strict legal action once they are apprehended. Shankar Lal remains hospitalised and under observation as he recovers from his injuries.
