Meta Expands AI Translation for Reels to Hindi and Portuguese, Boosting Global Creator Reach

Meta is enhancing its artificial intelligence translation capabilities on Facebook and Instagram Reels, adding support for Hindi and Portuguese in addition to English and Spanish. This update aims to make content more accessible and help creators connect with global audiences across linguistic boundaries.

Launched earlier this year, Meta’s AI translation feature allows Reels to be automatically translated and dubbed using advanced voice-mimicking technology. With this latest expansion, creators can now translate their Reels between four major languages — English, Hindi, Portuguese, and Spanish — bringing billions of users closer through multilingual content.

AI That Sounds Like You

One of the standout aspects of this feature is Meta’s ability to replicate the creator’s original voice and tone while translating. This ensures that the dubbed content retains authenticity and emotion, rather than sounding robotic or generic. Once the translation is generated, the creator can share the same Reel seamlessly across both Facebook and Instagram platforms.

Meta has also introduced a lip-syncing enhancement, which adjusts the translated audio to align with the creator’s mouth movements. According to Meta, this creates a “more natural and immersive viewing experience,” especially for audiences who prefer dubbed content.

User Control and Transparency

Meta emphasizes that translations will not be forced upon users. Viewers will have the option to watch Reels in their original language or opt for the translated version. Every translated Reel will display a “Translated with Meta AI” label, ensuring transparency and authenticity in AI-assisted content.

At present, this feature is being rolled out selectively. It will be available only to public Instagram profiles and Facebook creators with more than 1,000 followers. Creators can manually select the translation option before uploading a Reel and preview the translated version before deciding to publish.

Bridging Audiences Across Continents

Meta believes that this multilingual upgrade will empower creators to reach new audiences globally. For instance, a Hindi-speaking influencer can now automatically translate their Reels into Spanish, unlocking engagement from Latin American regions — and vice versa. These four languages together represent some of the largest and fastest-growing markets across both platforms.

“AI translation is another step toward making our platforms truly global,” Meta said in a statement. “By breaking down language barriers, we’re helping creators expand their communities and connect with audiences in more meaningful ways.”

Part of Meta’s AI Push

The company has been steadily integrating AI-driven tools across its ecosystem. Recently, Meta launched Vibes, an AI-only content feed within the Meta AI app, designed to let users share and interact with AI-generated videos. Together, these initiatives highlight Meta’s broader vision to blend creativity, accessibility, and technology for the next generation of social media experiences.
