Rahul Gandhi Alleges Systematic Voter Deletions, Cites Karnataka Example
New Delhi, September 12 – Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Thursday intensified his allegations of large-scale voter manipulation, accusing the BJP and the Election Commission of orchestrating “vote chori” (vote theft) through systematic deletions from electoral rolls.
Speaking at a press conference in Delhi, Gandhi presented what he called concrete proof of electoral malpractice, highlighting Karnataka’s Aland constituency as a case study. With the help of a detailed presentation, he alleged that software manipulation and fraudulent applications were being used to strike off thousands of legitimate voters.
“Aland is a constituency in Karnataka. Somebody tried to delete 6,018 votes,” Gandhi claimed. “We don’t know the total number of votes that were deleted in Aland during the 2023 election. They are much higher than 6,018, but somebody got caught deleting those 6,018 votes, and it was only by coincidence.”
He narrated how the alleged tampering came to light. According to Gandhi, a booth-level officer discovered the irregularity after her uncle’s name disappeared from the rolls. “She checked who deleted her uncle’s vote, and found it was a neighbour. When she asked, the neighbour denied doing it. Neither the person whose vote was deleted nor the person supposedly deleting it had any idea. Some other force hijacked the process and deleted the vote,” he alleged.
Gandhi further accused Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar of protecting what he called “vote chors,” alleging that the institution was failing to safeguard democracy. “The Election Commission should be the guardian of our electoral system, but today it is complicit in undermining it,” he said.
Earlier this month, Gandhi had hinted that the Congress would soon unveil a “hydrogen bomb” of evidence exposing vote theft. He clarified that Thursday’s revelations were not that promised “H-bomb,” but added that the party would soon disclose even more damaging proof.
The Congress leader’s remarks come amid heightened political tensions, with the party seeking to rally public opinion around allegations of electoral malpractice ahead of upcoming state and national elections.
