MK Stalin Calls Rahul Gandhi His ‘Brother’, Reaffirms DMK–Congress Ideological Bond Amid TVK Speculation
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK president M.K. Stalin reaffirmed his party’s enduring alliance with the Congress, describing Rahul Gandhi as his “brother” and emphasizing that their bond stems from shared ideology and national concern, not political expediency.
Addressing a public event, Stalin said, “I cannot express the affection shown by my brother Rahul Gandhi. I never address any political leader as a brother, but I call Rahul Gandhi my brother because he treats me as his elder brother.”
He underlined that their friendship transcends party politics. “This is not a political attachment but an ideological connection. I wish to share this emotion with everyone. Our relationship is built on the belief that the welfare of the nation is more important than the welfare of any individual,” Stalin added, stressing the unity of purpose between the DMK and the Congress.
The Chief Minister said the “ideological understanding and relationship” between the two parties would continue to safeguard the country’s democratic values. “The DMK–Congress relationship will definitely protect the nation,” he asserted.
Stalin’s comments come amid rising political chatter about the Congress potentially warming up to actor-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). The speculation has sparked discussions about possible shifts in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape, especially as TVK gains traction among young voters.
Earlier this month, Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin also hinted at the strength of the alliance, declaring at a public event that “the hand will never leave us” — a symbolic nod to the Congress party’s election emblem.
The remarks follow Congress MP Manickam Tagore’s statement to India Today, where he said that actor Vijay could emerge as the main political challenger to the opposition INDI alliance in Tamil Nadu — a comment that added fuel to alliance speculation.
Despite such conjecture, Stalin’s statement sends a clear message of unity, underscoring that the DMK–Congress partnership remains grounded in shared principles and a common vision for national welfare — a sentiment that may shape the state’s political direction in the months ahead.
