Karnataka Woman Gang-Raped After Being Lured for Loan Repayment; Police Launch Intensive Search for Accused
A 39-year-old home guard from Karnataka was allegedly gang-raped by four men in the Koppal district after being deceived under the pretext of a loan repayment, according to police officials. The incident, which took place on the evening of November 16, has sparked outrage and prompted an urgent investigation.
Lured for Money Repayment
Police said the survivor had travelled from Hosapete to Kustagi after one of the accused, identified as Lakshman, informed her that he was ready to repay ₹5,000 that he allegedly owed her. She told her husband that she was leaving for duty and proceeded to meet Lakshman, whom she had known for about six months.
Upon meeting her, Lakshman picked her up on a motorcycle and told her they would stop by to collect the money. However, the situation took a dark turn soon after.
Drugged and Taken to Abandoned House
According to the complaint, Lakshman and three of his accomplices offered the woman a drink, claiming it was juice. After consuming it, she began feeling unwell. The group then allegedly took her to a deserted house located in a field near Madduru limits.
Investigators say the woman was assaulted repeatedly between 5 pm and 5:45 pm by the four accused. The ordeal left her severely ill, and the group eventually took her to Koppal District Hospital, where she was admitted for treatment.
FIR Registered; Police Begin Hunt for Suspects
Following the survivor’s statement, Yalaburga Police Station registered an FIR and initiated a probe into the incident. Koppal DSP personally inspected the crime scene and directed teams to track down the men involved.
Police said all four accused are currently on the run, and multiple teams have been deployed to trace their whereabouts. Officials noted that early evidence indicates the crime was pre-planned and coordinated by Lakshman and his associates.
Investigation Underway
The police have begun collecting CCTV footage, recording witness statements, and securing medical evidence. Authorities stated that the woman is currently recovering and receiving support, while further investigation is in progress.
The case has raised serious concerns about safety for women working irregular hours and has intensified discussions about financial vulnerability being weaponised by perpetrators.
