A tense exchange at the United Nations erupted into a shouting match after Israel’s ambassador accused UN officials of unfairly targeting his country over a report detailing the impact of the Gaza conflict on Palestinian children and allegations of sexual violence committed during the ongoing war.
The confrontation took place during a UN hearing where officials discussed the humanitarian situation in Gaza, including reports of civilian casualties, attacks on children, and allegations of conflict-related sexual violence. Israel’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Danny Danon, strongly objected to the findings and accused the UN leadership of displaying an “obsession” with criticizing Israel while overlooking the actions of Hamas.
Israel Envoy Clashes With UN Officials
The heated argument began after UN representatives presented findings concerning the suffering of Palestinian children caught in the conflict and concerns over sexual violence linked to the war. Israeli envoy Danny Danon interrupted the proceedings and challenged the credibility of the report, claiming that the United Nations was repeatedly singling out Israel for condemnation.
Danon argued that the international body had failed to adequately acknowledge the atrocities committed by Hamas during the October 7 attacks and subsequent hostilities. He accused the organization, including UN Secretary-General António Guterres, of maintaining a biased approach toward Israel.
According to videos from the session, voices were raised as Danon and UN officials exchanged accusations, turning what was expected to be a routine hearing into a highly charged diplomatic confrontation.
Sexual Violence Report At Centre Of Dispute
One of the major points of disagreement involved a UN report that documented cases of sexual violence linked to the conflict. Israeli officials have consistently argued that Hamas fighters committed acts of sexual violence during their attacks on Israeli communities in October 2023 and have urged international organizations to focus more attention on those incidents.
However, UN officials also highlighted allegations involving Palestinian detainees and the broader humanitarian consequences of the war in Gaza. The discussion quickly became contentious as Israeli representatives claimed that the report lacked balance and unfairly portrayed Israel as the primary offender.
Danon insisted that Israel remains committed to investigating any credible allegations against its forces but accused the UN of failing to apply the same standards when assessing Hamas’ actions.
Debate Over Palestinian Children
The hearing also focused on the impact of the conflict on Palestinian children, with UN representatives presenting data on casualties, displacement, and disruptions to education and healthcare.
Officials stressed that children continue to bear the brunt of the fighting, facing shortages of food, medicine, and safe shelter. They called on all parties to respect international humanitarian law and ensure the protection of civilians.
Israel, however, argued that Hamas operates from densely populated civilian areas, making military operations particularly difficult. Danon maintained that Israel has taken steps to minimize civilian harm and blamed Hamas for using schools, hospitals, and residential neighborhoods for military purposes.

Israel Accuses Guterres Of Bias
During the exchange, Danon directly criticized UN Secretary-General António Guterres, accusing him of being overly focused on condemning Israel while paying insufficient attention to the actions of Hamas.
The Israeli envoy said the UN leadership had developed an “obsession” with targeting Israel and questioned why reports on Hamas’ alleged crimes had not received similar levels of scrutiny.
UN officials rejected accusations of bias, saying their role is to document violations committed by all parties involved in armed conflicts. They emphasized that protecting civilians and ensuring accountability remain central to the organization’s mandate.
Diplomatic Tensions Continue
The latest confrontation reflects the growing tensions between Israel and the United Nations since the start of the Gaza war. Israeli officials have repeatedly criticized UN agencies and senior officials for what they describe as a one-sided narrative on the conflict.
At the same time, humanitarian organizations and UN representatives continue to express concern over the devastating toll the war has taken on civilians, particularly women and children.
The exchange at the UN highlights the deep divisions that remain over how the conflict is portrayed internationally and who should be held responsible for violations committed during the war.
As fighting and diplomatic disputes continue, calls for an independent investigation into alleged abuses by all sides are growing louder. However, with both Israel and UN officials standing firmly by their positions, finding common ground appears increasingly difficult.
